Creative Background
Ruth is a designer maker of whimsical hand built figurative ceramics, who first started working with clay in 1985 whilst studying an Art Foundation Year, at Carmarthen College of Art in South Wales.
At the end of her experimental year, she decided to specialize in Fashion, and went on to study a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Fashion and Textiles at Nottingham Trent University.
After graduating in 1989, she worked for Courts Viyella in Derbyshire, and travelled the world designing menswear for many of the UK's High Street Stores.
In 2003, she was reintroduced to clay, when she enrolled on an intensive Ceramic Summer School at Edinburgh College of Art, and has been well and truly hooked on clay, ever since. She took her passion one step further, and in 2009 embarked on part-time Foundation Degree in Contemporary Ceramic Practice at Newcastle College.
During that time, she exhibited at the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead, and sold her work at Potfest Scotland. She currently teaches part time at Corbans and Mairangi Art Center, in between making her own work at her home studio in Belmont, Auckland.
